Giovanna’s choice

Govancroft Pottery

c 1920-40s

When I chose these dishes, I didn’t know they are called ‘ashet’ (from French ‘assiette’).

I heard wonderful stories from the group about childhood memories of these being filled with meat stew and taken to the baker for a pastry lid and baking.

I discovered the term ashet has been in use for this form in Scotland for over 200 years.
